“The Second Christmas”
One of the most popular Christmas stories is about Ralphie and his quest to get a Red Rider Air Rifle. He tells Santa Claus, his mom, dad and even his teacher about his burning desire. Everyone of those people tells him that he will shoot his eye out, which he does. The rest of the story is about some familiar and comical themes that are a part of every families Christmas. Can you remember your best Christmas?
Our text this morning describes God’s best Christmas ever with the Second Coming of Christ. This text summaries the three most important themes of Christmas into one description. Normally our message on Christmas goes back to the historical details which I have preached on for 33 years so you should be familiar with these heart warming and mind boggling accounts from the Gospels that truly and accurately describe the miracle of Christmas. The miracle includes the Promise from Is 7:14, 9:1-6; and then the Miracle of the Virgin birth and then the miracle of the Second Christmas.
There is more to Christmas than most people realize. The first appearance, birth of Christ was an eschatological event. It is connected to th
e last times. As the writer of Hebrews says in v 26 he has appeared once for all at the end of the ages to put away sin by the sacrifice of himself. The death of Christ took place at the end of the ages. The word means at the very end of the age. The book of Hebrews is filled with eschatological language. 2000 years ago he anticipates the second coming. The second Christmas will be the best Christmas ever.
